With this simple scheme you will be able to tell any time in Spanish

The basic way of telling time in Spanish is use to the singular form of ser (“to be”), which is es, for one o’clock and the plural form, son, for other times. Minutes can be stated simply by separating them from the hour using y when it is “past” and the word menos when it is “to”

  • 1:00 – Es la una en punto. It is One O´Clock
  • 1:15 – Es la una y cuarto. Literally: it is One and A Quarter
  • 1:30 -Es la una y media.  Literally it is One and A Half
  • 1:45 – Son las dos menos cuarto. Literally: It is Two minus A Quarter.

Simple, isn’t it? Now you can practice with these examples. Please, tell me: ¿Qué hora es?
